From Piazza Tasso, the heart of Sorrento, the Sorrento Coast is easily accessible on foot. Stroll along Via Luigi de Maio, taking in the sights and sounds of the town. The walk is relatively short and offers a pleasant introduction to the area.

Public Transport

Local buses operated by EAVBUS serve Sorrento and the surrounding areas. From the Sorrento train station or Piazza Tasso, take the Line D bus towards Marina Grande; this will drop you closer to the coast. Tickets cost around €1.00-€2.00 and can be purchased at local tabacchi shops or directly on the bus.

Taxi

Taxis are readily available in Sorrento, with taxi ranks at the train station and Piazza Tasso. A short taxi ride from Piazza Tasso to Via Luigi de Maio will cost approximately €12-€15, with a minimum fare of €6. Be aware that there may be additional charges for luggage (€1 per piece).

Ferry

Ferries to the Sorrento Coast are available from Naples, Capri, and other nearby ports. From the port, you can take a local bus (EAVBUS Line D) or a taxi to reach various points along the coast. The Sorrento Coast is a captivating stretch of coastline on the Sorrentine Peninsula, separating the Gulf of Naples from the Gulf of Salerno. The coast is easily accessible from Naples and Pompeii via the Circumvesuviana rail line.Sorrento itself is a popular tourist destination with a rich history dating back to the 6th century BC when it was inhabited by the Oscans. The Greeks later arrived, naming it Surrentum and imbuing it with their culture. According to legend, Sorrento was founded by Liparus, son of Ausonus, who was the son of Ulysses and Circe. The town boasts ancient ruins, including Oscan remnants from around 600 BC.In ancient times, Surrentum was known for its wine, fish, and Campanian vases. Today, the region thrives on tourism, agriculture, and trade. Visitors can explore the historic center, admire the architecture, and wander through citrus groves. The town is also famous for wood inlay craftsmanship, with opportunities to learn about its history and evolution at the Museo della Tarsia Lignea. The Amalfi Drive, a narrow road that winds along the cliffs above the Tyrrhenian Sea, connects Sorrento to Amalfi and offers breathtaking views.
