Piazza Virgiliana: The Heart of Mantua

Getting There

• Bus

  From the center of Verona, head to the main bus station, Verona Porta Nuova. You can reach the station by walking from Piazza Bra, which is about a 15-minute walk. Once at the bus station, look for buses heading to Mantova (Mantua). The journey takes approximately 30-40 minutes. Once you arrive at the Mantova bus station, Piazza Virgiliana is a short 15-minute walk. Exit the bus station and head north on Via Roma, then turn left onto Viale P. M. Rocco. Continue straight until you reach Piazza Virgiliana.

• Train

  Start your journey at Verona Porta Nuova train station. You can walk there from the city center, taking about 15 minutes from Piazza Bra. At the station, purchase a ticket for a train to Mantova (Mantua). The train ride lasts about 30 minutes. Upon arriving at Mantova train station, exit and walk south on Via Francesco Gonzaga. Continue straight until you reach Piazza Virgiliana, which should take around 20 minutes.

• Bicycle

  If you're up for a cycling adventure, you can rent a bike in Verona. Start from the city center and head towards the bike path that leads to Mantova. The ride is about 30 kilometers and takes approximately 2 hours. Follow the path along the river and enjoy the scenic views. Once you arrive in Mantova, look for signs directing you to Piazza Virgiliana, which is a central landmark and easy to find.

• Walking

  If you enjoy walking and are up for a long trek, you can walk from Verona to Mantova. It’s about 30 kilometers and will take you approximately 6-7 hours. Start from the center of Verona, heading south towards the countryside. Be sure to bring plenty of water and snacks. Follow the signs towards Mantova, and once you reach the city, navigate to Piazza Virgiliana using local maps or asking for directions.
