Walking

Pio Cesare is located in the heart of Alba, easily accessible on foot from most points in the city center. From Piazza Michele Ferrero, walk east along Via Vittorio Emanuele II, then turn right onto Via Cesare Balbo. The winery will be on your left. No costs are involved.

Public Transport

If arriving by train at Alba station, take bus line 1 or 2 towards the city center. Get off at the 'Alba - Piazza Savona' stop. From there, walk north along Via Vittorio Emanuele II, then turn left onto Via Cesare Balbo. The winery will be on your left. A single bus ticket costs €1.50.

Taxi

Taxis are available at the Alba train station and throughout the city. A taxi ride from the train station to Pio Cesare will cost approximately €10-€15, depending on traffic and time of day.

Pio Cesare stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of winemaking in the Piedmont region of Italy. Established in 1881 by Cesare Pio, the winery remains the only one operating within Alba's historic center, its cellars intertwined with the city's ancient Roman walls. For five generations, the Pio family has dedicated themselves to producing exceptional Barolo and Barbaresco wines, becoming pioneers in sharing these treasures with the world.The winery's location is unique, built on four levels, with one even below the water table of the Tanaro River. This ensures a constant temperature, ideal for fermentation and maturation in traditional Slavonian oak barrels. The family owns 70 hectares of vineyards in the Barolo and Barbaresco regions. Today, Federica Boffa, Cesare Benvenuto, and Augusto Boffa carry on the traditions.A visit to Pio Cesare offers a journey through time, where ancient cellars meet modern winemaking techniques. It's a chance to taste the history and passion that have made Pio Cesare an icon of Italian wine.
