Getting There

  • Walking

    The Chamanna Cluozza is only accessible by foot. The most common route starts from Zernez, following hiking route 07. From the Zernez train station (1471m), walk east through the village towards the Ofen Pass. Cross the covered wooden bridge over the Spöl river. The trail then ascends steadily through meadows and larch forests. The hike to Chamanna Cluozza (1882m) takes approximately 3.5 hours. An alternative route starts from Vallun Chafuol/P3 on the Ofenpass road. Note that dogs are not allowed on any trails within the Swiss National Park.

  • Public Transport

    To reach the starting point of the hike from Zernez to Chamanna Cluozza using public transport: Take the train or bus to Zernez. Zernez is served by the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) and PostBus services. From Zernez train station, follow the signs towards the Swiss National Park visitor center and then continue on foot towards Chamanna Cluozza. Alternatively, take a PostBus to Vallun Chafuol/P3 on the Ofenpass road to shorten the hike. A single PostBus fare from Zernez to Vallun Chafuol/P3 costs approximately CHF 2-4.

Chamanna Cluozza, a charming mountain cabin, sits at 1882 meters above sea level in the heart of the Swiss National Park. As the only catered hut within the park, it provides a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the untouched beauty of the Val Cluozza. Originally constructed in 1910 by Curdin Grass from Zernez on behalf of the Swiss Scientific Society, the hut has undergone several expansions and renovations. In 2021, it was carefully renovated following eco-friendly construction principles, including an annex. Today, Chamanna Cluozza offers 61 simple beds in rooms and dormitories. A biological wastewater treatment plant and a small hydropower plant support the hut's sustainable operations. Chamanna Cluozza is the perfect base for exploring the Val Cluozza, the first valley dedicated to the Swiss National Park by the municipality of Zernez in 1909. The valley is known for its diverse wildlife, including red deer, chamois, and marmots. Hiking trails from the hut lead to stunning viewpoints, fossilized dinosaur tracks, and the Piz Quattervals. Staying at Chamanna Cluozza is an unforgettable experience, offering a chance to disconnect from the everyday and reconnect with nature. The hut is open from mid-June to mid-October and is accessible only on foot.
