Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of Lucca, start at the Lucca Train Station (Stazione di Lucca). Head south on Viale Carlo Del Prete towards the city walls. Once you reach the city walls, walk along the walls (it’s a beautiful walking path) and exit at Porta San Pietro. From there, follow signs for the train station to reach the bus terminal. Take the bus heading to Pisa (Line LAM Rossa) and get off at the Pisa Centrale train station. Once at Pisa Centrale, take a train to Roma Termini, which usually takes about 2-3 hours. After arriving at Roma Termini, transfer to Line A of the Metro towards Battistini. Get off at the Ottaviano-San Pietro station. From there, it’s about a 10-minute walk to the Gardens of Vatican City. Walk west on Via Ottaviano, then turn right onto Via Paolo VI. The entrance to the gardens will be on your left.
