Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are starting from the Matera Cathedral (Cattedrale di Matera), head southeast on Via Duomo towards Piazza Vittorio Veneto. Continue straight onto Via San Francesco d'Assisi, and then take a right onto Via delle Beccherie. Follow this road until you reach Piazza San Pietro Caveoso. From the piazza, take the stairs down towards Via Madonna delle Virtù. Once you reach the bottom, turn left onto Via San Giovanni. Follow this road until you reach Recinto XX Settembre. Ipogeo MateraSum will be on your left at number 7.

    If you are near the Sassi di Matera area, start at Piazza Vittorio Veneto. Walk towards Via Roma, and then take a left onto Via XX Settembre. Continue walking for about 10 minutes. You will see Recinto XX Settembre on your right; Ipogeo MateraSum is located at number 7.

    To reach Ipogeo MateraSum using public transport, you can take the local bus from the main bus terminal near Piazza Matteotti. Board a bus heading towards the Sassi area. Get off at the stop called 'Piazza San Pietro Caveoso'. From there, walk down Via Madonna delle Virtù, turn left onto Via San Giovanni, and continue until you reach Recinto XX Settembre.
