    Discover more about Giardini Margherita

Giardini Margherita, inaugurated as Passeggio Regina Margherita in 1879, remains Bologna's most popular park, maintaining its original English Romantic park layout. Designed by Count Sambuy and architect Tubertini, the park spans 26 hectares and provides a green lung for the city. During its construction, an Etruscan burial ground was discovered, and some of the recovered travertine tombs are still visible today. The park's centerpiece is an artificial lake, once used for boating and ice-skating. Although a wooden chalet on the lake was destroyed and replaced, the area still offers a place to relax and enjoy the view. Throughout the 20th century, Giardini Margherita hosted various exhibitions, including the Emilian agricultural and industrial exhibition in 1888. The park also features the equestrian monument to Vittorio Emanuele II, moved from Piazza Maggiore in 1944. Today, visitors can enjoy walking, running, cycling, and various activities, with amenities like Wi-Fi, kiosks, and restaurants available. The Serre dei Giardini Margherita offers co-working spaces, film and music events, and food outlets, aiming to revitalize an abandoned space for the community.
