Palazzo Marescalchi, located on Via IV Novembre in Bologna, is a testament to the city's rich architectural and artistic heritage. The palace, initially constructed in 1466, underwent a major reconstruction in 1613 by Floriano Ambrosini, giving it its current Baroque style. Over the centuries, the palace has been owned by prominent families, including the Dall'Armi and Marescalchi families. The Marescalchi name was added after Eleonora D'Armi married Senator Vincenzo Marescalchi. The palace was expanded in 1777, with further renovations in the 19th century. Notably, Guglielmo Marconi, the Nobel laureate and pioneer of radio technology, was born in the palace in 1874. Inside, the palace boasts an array of artistic treasures. Frescoes by Ludovico Carracci and Guido Reni adorn some of the rooms on the main floor, while Felice Giani decorated the large oval hall in 1780. The palace suffered damage during World War II bombings, but was later acquired and restored by the Ministry of the Treasury in 1961. Today, it houses the Soprintendenza per i Beni Ambientali e Architettonici of the Province of Emilia, responsible for preserving the region's cultural heritage.
