Discover more about Parco della Chiusa

Parco della Chiusa, often referred to as Parco Talon by locals, is a large green space in Casalecchio di Reno, a town bordering Bologna. The park's history dates back to the 17th century when the Sampieri family acquired land and built villas, transforming the area into a noble estate. The park saw its heyday in the 18th century, hosting lavish parties and becoming a popular spot for the Bolognese elite. The park's design reflects the changing tastes of the time, with elements of French, Italian, and English garden styles. Visitors can still see remnants of these designs, including formal gardens, tree-lined avenues, and more naturalistic landscapes. The Chiusa di Casalecchio, one of the oldest hydraulic structures in Europe, is also located near the park and has played a vital role in the region's history by managing the Reno River's waters. Today, Parco della Chiusa is a public park offering a variety of activities. Walking and hiking are popular, with trails ranging from easy strolls to more challenging climbs. The park is also a great place for birdwatching, with diverse species inhabiting the area. Picnic areas are available, and an agriturismo within the park offers ready-made picnic baskets with local, organic products. The park is open year-round, 24 hours a day, making it a convenient escape into nature.
