Discover more about Torre Prendiparte (Sky Experience)

Rising from Piazzetta Prendiparte, the Torre Prendiparte offers a unique glimpse into Bologna's medieval past. Constructed in the 12th century by the Guelph Prendiparte family, the tower served as a defensive stronghold. Originally intended to be even taller, it stands at 60 meters, second only to the Asinelli Tower in height. Over the centuries, the tower has served various purposes. It was once an extension of the Archdiocesan Seminary and, later, a prison for those who committed crimes against religion or Christian ethics. Inscriptions and graffiti etched into the walls by prisoners are still visible on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th floors. The lower floors were converted into living quarters in the late 18th century. Today, the Torre Prendiparte offers a captivating experience. Visitors can ascend the tower's secure staircase (or use the elevator) to reach the rooftop terrace. From this vantage point, they can enjoy breathtaking views of Bologna's rooftops, buildings, hills, and plains. The tower also functions as a guesthouse, hosting events and providing unique stays.
