Discover more about Villa Spada

Escape the city bustle at Villa Spada, a serene park and villa complex just southwest of Bologna's city center. The villa, commissioned in the late 18th century by Jacopo Zambeccari, showcases neoclassical architecture and design by Giovanni Battista Martinetti. Over the years, Villa Spada has passed through several owners, including the Spada family, who gave the villa its name. It even served as the Austrian army headquarters in 1849. In the 1960s, the Municipality of Bologna acquired the property and opened it to the public. The park spans over 6 hectares and features Italian-style gardens with statues and manicured hedges. Explore diverse flora, from evergreen trees near the villa to Mediterranean species and deciduous trees. A neo-Gothic tower adds a touch of whimsy to the landscape. Ascend to the park's highest point for panoramic views of Bologna. Since 1990, the villa has housed the Museo del Tessuto e della Tappezzeria “Vittorio Zironi”, displaying a collection of antique textiles and garments.
