If you are in the center of Modena, start at Piazza Grande. Head west on Corso Canalgrande. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Via Emilia. Turn left onto Via Emilia and walk for about 15 minutes. You will pass various shops and cafes. Keep an eye out for the signs pointing to Bologna. Once you reach the main square in Bologna, Piazza Maggiore, the Basilica di San Petronio will be right in front of you.

From Modena's train station, take a train towards Bologna Centrale. The journey takes about 20 minutes. Once you arrive at Bologna Centrale, exit the station and follow the signs for the city center. You can walk to Piazza Maggiore in about 20 minutes. Head down Via Indipendenza, which will lead you directly to the square. The Basilica di San Petronio is located at the northern side of the square.

Take Line 5 or Line 6 bus from Modena’s central bus station. The bus ride to Bologna takes approximately 30 minutes. Get off at the stop 'Piazza Malpighi'. From there, walk towards Via Indipendenza and follow it straight for about 10 minutes until you reach Piazza Maggiore. The Basilica di San Petronio will be visible at the north end of the square.
