Discover more about Casa di Santa Rosa

Casa di Santa Rosa is more than just a museum; it's a journey into the soul of Viterbo, offering a blend of history, culture, and community spirit. The house where Saint Rosa once lived is now part of the Monastery of the Clarisse di Santa Rosa. Before arriving at the monastery dedicated to the saint, a plaque marks the spot where "The virgin St. Rose was born and lived". Born around 1233 in Viterbo, Rose was known for her piety and devotion to the poor. During a turbulent time when the city was a contested commune between the Papal States and the Holy Roman Empire, Rose began protesting against the occupation of the city. The museum showcases artifacts, paintings, and displays that chronicle her life, providing a glimpse into the traditions and religious fervor that shaped Viterbo. After the death of St. Rose's parents, the house belonged to various owners for more than three centuries, until April of 1661, when it went to the nuns. According to tradition, a series of miracles happened in the house, including the story of Laura Biella, who was miraculously healed by St. Rose. Today, those rooms are dedicated to prayer. The house has a small garden which is joined to the Monastery and the Church of St. Rose.
