Discover more about Giardino degli Aranci

The Giardino degli Aranci, also known as Parco Savello, is a charming retreat located on the Aventine Hill in Rome. This 7,800 square meter park offers a peaceful escape with some of the most picturesque views of the city. Designed in 1932 by Raffaele De Vico, the garden is laid out with a symmetrical plan, featuring a central avenue that leads to a panoramic terrace. From this vantage point, visitors can enjoy sweeping views of the Tiber River, St Peter's Basilica, and the cityscape. The park's orange trees were planted in memory of St. Dominic, who founded a convent nearby in the 13th century. Legend says that he brought the first orange tree from Spain. Giardino degli Aranci stands on the site of a former fortress built by the Savelli family in the late 13th century, incorporating remains of an earlier 10th-century castle. Some of the medieval fortress walls still surround the garden. Today, the park provides a tranquil spot for locals and tourists alike to relax and take in the beautiful scenery.
