Benincasa sought solitude in these caves, dedicating himself to prayer and simple living. Local legend intertwines with the site's history, telling tales of Benincasa's battles against the Devil, who he supposedly banished from the cave, leaving his footprints on the rocks. These 'Devil's footprints' are still pointed out to visitors today. The caves themselves have a history stretching back far beyond Benincasa's time. Archaeological excavations have revealed Neolithic, Bronze Age, Roman, and Medieval artifacts, indicating human presence throughout millennia. The site consists of three cave entrances at different heights in the rock face. The uppermost cave is where Benincasa lived.To reach Buca del Beato, visitors can take a path from Monticchiello towards Montepulciano.
