Getting there

Driving

The most convenient way to reach Val d'Orcia is by car, allowing you to explore the region's various towns and viewpoints. From the A1 autostrada, exit at Chiusi-Chianciano Terme or Valdichiana if coming from the south, or Valdichiana if coming from the north. Follow the signs towards Val d'Orcia. Parking is available in most towns, often just outside the city walls. Be aware that parking can be limited during peak season. Parking costs vary, but expect to pay around €1-2 per hour.

Public Transport

While not ideal, you can reach Val d'Orcia by public transport. Take a train to Chiusi-Chianciano Terme station, which has frequent service from both Rome and Florence. From there, take a bus to Pienza, Montalcino, or other towns in the area. However, bus service is infrequent, and a car is recommended for getting around the region. A bus ticket from Chiusi to Pienza will cost approximately €4-6.

Walking

Once you're in San Quirico d'Orcia, the town is easily explored on foot. The main attractions, such as the Horti Leonini and the Collegiata, are within walking distance of each other. Comfortable shoes are recommended, as the town is located on a hilltop. From parking areas outside the walls, it's a short walk to the town center. Walking around the town is free.
