Originally built in 1389 on the site of an early Christian basilica by Cardinal Archbishop Enrico Capece Minutolo, the palace underwent significant reconstruction and expansion in 1654 under Cardinal Archbishop Ascanio Filomarino. Architect Bonaventura Presti is believed to have overseen this transformation, which included the creation of a small square in front of the building, enhancing its presence.
