Discover more about Monte Faito

Monte Faito, a prominent peak in the Lattari Mountains, offers a refreshing escape from the bustling coastlines of the Sorrento Peninsula. Rising to 1,131 meters (3,711 feet), its name derives from the local word for beech trees ('faggeto'), which thrive on its slopes, some over 400 years old. Historically, the mountain held strategic importance, with ancient Roman settlements dotting its slopes. In more recent times, its timber resources fueled the shipbuilding industry in Castellammare di Stabia. The mountain also played a role in ice production, storing winter snow for summer use in preserving food. Today, Monte Faito is a haven for nature lovers and hikers. Numerous trails wind through the forests, offering stunning views. The 'Sentiero dell'Angelo' (Angel's Path) is a popular route, tracing the steps of Saints Catello and Antonino. The summit offers unparalleled views of the Gulf of Naples, Mount Vesuvius, Capri, and the Amalfi Coast. Visitors can also explore the Sanctuary of San Michele Arcangelo, a site of religious significance and panoramic vistas. Beyond the natural beauty, Monte Faito offers restaurants, cafes, and sports facilities, including tennis and volleyball courts, and a swimming pool. It's a destination for those seeking cooler temperatures, scenic hikes, and a taste of local culture.
