Discover more about Natural Arch

The Natural Arch, or Arco Naturale, is one of Capri's most iconic natural wonders. This impressive limestone arch, standing 18 meters (59 feet) high and 12 meters (39 feet) wide, is a surviving fragment of a vast cave that existed during the Paleolithic period. Over millennia, erosion by wind and sea sculpted the arch, creating a breathtaking geological formation. Located on Capri's eastern coast, the Natural Arch offers panoramic views of the island's rugged coastline and the azure waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The arch frames the seascape, providing a dramatic backdrop for photographs and a sense of awe for visitors. The site is accessible by foot via scenic walking paths from Capri town, offering a chance to experience the island's natural beauty away from the bustling tourist center. The hike to the Natural Arch is a rewarding experience, leading through quiet residential areas, Mediterranean vegetation, and past the Grotto of Matermania, an ancient site of pagan worship. The path offers glimpses into island life and stunning views of the coastline, including the iconic Faraglioni rocks. Reaching the arch involves some walking uphill and descending steps, so comfortable shoes and water are recommended. The arch itself is free to visit and open year-round.
