Discover more about Sentiero Baia di Ieranto

The Sentiero Baia di Ieranto, located in Massa Lubrense on the Sorrento Peninsula, offers a captivating hiking experience with breathtaking views of the Amalfi Coast. The trail leads to the serene Baia di Ieranto, a part of the Marine Protected Area of Punta Campanella. The name 'Ieranto' derives from the Greek word “Ieros,” meaning “sacred,” reflecting its spiritual significance. According to legend, this bay was once home to the Sirens who attempted to lure Ulysses with their songs. Historically, the area was used for citrus cultivation and later, in the early 20th century, a limestone quarry operated here until the 1950s. The 6-kilometer round trip trail is considered moderately challenging, with some steep ascents and rocky paths. It takes about 3 hours to complete. The path is well-maintained and offers panoramic views. Along the way, hikers can see the remains of old lime kilns. The trail passes Villa Rosa, where writer Norman Douglas once resided. Today, the Baia di Ieranto is managed by Fondo Ambiente Italiano (FAI), who work to preserve the natural environment. Visitors can swim in the crystal-clear waters, kayak, and snorkel.
