Piazza della Repubblica, one of Orvieto's most famous squares, has been the civic heart of the city since its construction. Situated at the western end of Corso Cavour, its history stretches back to the Etruscan era when it served as the core of the ancient city.Before the Duomo's construction, Piazza della Repubblica was also the center of religious life, with Sant'Andrea Church as the city's main church. In Roman times, the square was likely the site of the Roman Forum, and even earlier, an Etruscan temple occupied the space where the church stands today.
