Discover more about Saturnia

The Saturnia Hot Springs, known locally as Cascate del Mulino, are a captivating natural wonder in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma. These springs are not just a geological phenomenon but a place steeped in history and legend. According to local lore, the springs were formed by lightning bolts hurled by the gods, creating a haven of peace and renewal. For centuries, the Etruscans and Romans recognized the therapeutic properties of these waters, building temples and baths to honor their life-giving source. The water originates deep underground, traveling for forty years from Mount Amiata before emerging at a constant temperature of 37.5°C (99.5°F). Rich in sulfur, carbon, and other minerals, the water is believed to have healing properties, attracting visitors seeking relaxation and rejuvenation. The Cascate del Mulino offer a unique bathing experience. The warm water cascades over a series of limestone terraces, forming natural pools where visitors can sit and soak. The continuous flow of 800 liters per second ensures a constant supply of fresh, mineral-rich water. The surrounding landscape adds to the allure, with rolling hills and the remnants of an old mill creating a picturesque backdrop. While the Cascate del Mulino are free and open to the public, the nearby Terme di Saturnia Natural Spa & Golf Resort offers a more luxurious experience with spa treatments and thermal pools for a fee.
