Discover more about Modern Art Gallery Sant'Anna

The Modern Art Gallery Sant'Anna (Galleria d'Arte Moderna Sant'Anna), also known as GAM Palermo, is a cultural gem nestled in Palermo's historic Kalsa quarter. The gallery is dedicated to showcasing the vibrant artistic legacy of Sicily and Italy from the 19th and early 20th centuries. The gallery is located within the Sant'Anna complex, which elegantly combines the 15th-century Gothic-Catalan Palazzo Bonet and the Baroque Franciscan convent of Sant'Anna la Misericordia. Founded in 1910 within the Teatro Politeama, the gallery moved to its current location in 2006 to accommodate its growing collection. The building’s restoration into a modern museum was completed in 1996 and included exhibition spaces, educational facilities, a conference hall, library, archives, bookstore, and cafeteria. GAM boasts a collection of over 200 paintings and sculptures by prominent artists such as Giovanni Boldini, Massimo Campigli, Carlo Carrà, and Renato Guttuso. The installations revolve around historical themes, from mythology to the Italian Risorgimento. The gallery also dedicates a hall to Sicilian Novecento art, providing a local flavor. Visiting the GAM offers an immersive journey into Sicily’s artistic evolution and contemporary spirit.
