Authentic Rome 4 hours Walking Tour in Testaccio

Rome as a Roman

Having already been to Rome several times, I was looking for a tour that would teach me something about the city's traditions and culture. This tour let me discover the historical layers of Testaccio, which was the port of ancient Rome and later a working-class residential district for the industrial hub of Ostiense, born in the early 1900s. This history is interwoven with an immense popular culture and tradition. The local market, the osterie of Monte Testaccio and the former slaughterhouse gave rise to Rome's cucina povera of the quinto quarto (offal cooking). The public housing blocks and the Case dei Bambini (children's houses) in their courtyards paint a picture of working-class family life between the two wars. The tour reveals this working-class Rome of laborers and its rich tradition, which, not by chance, has been celebrated in literature and film over the decades. If you want to discover a Rome you won't find on the Lonely Planet, this tour is for you

PRIVATE TOUR - Authentic Rome 4 hours Walking Tour in Testaccio

One of the best choice in my to-do-list

As an architect, I was pretty excited about this tour, and it didn't disappoint. The Ex Mattatoio was incredible — exactly the kind of industrial archaeology I love. The social housing blocks, the old Post Office, and Fire Station were all really interesting too, especially hearing how they fit into the neighbourhood's development. That massive Jumping Wolf mural was stunning in person. Valentina had a good balance — informative without being overly academic about it, which I appreciated. I liked how we moved between ancient Roman remains, early 1900s buildings, and just... normal daily life in the area. Lunch at the food market was simple but perfect — I tried the famous supplì from Supplizio and some fried cod. Good way to actually experience the neighbourhood rather than just look at it. If you're into architecture, urban planning, or just want to see a side of Rome that doesn't involve dodging selfie sticks, this is a solid choice.

The Original Rome Food & Market Tour (All-Inclusive)

Discover hidden food and wine gems in Palermo

Angelo led us on the Streaty's Palermo Gourmand: Mamma's Recipes and Sicilian Wine and it was absolutely wonderful. Taking us through the back alleys of Palermo we were treated to delicious pastries, appetizers, various wine, two different types of pasta, more wine, and gelato. The great thing about this tour is not only tasting great food but finding out about these local gems which you could return to. We got more value out of this tour than visiting the markets, and Angelo was fantastic. His love for Palermo is obvious. He even took us to some places which were off-the-tour as he wanted us to really 'know' Palermo. For example, the church where a judge who was assassinated by the Mafia, is buried. The judge is now a hero and it was very touching to hear Angelo tell us about it. This has been the highlight of our trip so far. Thanks Angelo!
