Getting There

  • Walking

    If you're starting from the main entrance of the historic center of San Gimignano, head straight down Via San Giovanni. Continue walking until you reach the intersection with Piazza della Cisterna. Take a right to enter Piazza della Cisterna, a beautiful square surrounded by medieval buildings. From there, continue towards the far end of the square and head up Via Duomo, which will lead you directly to Piazza Duomo. The Palazzo Comunale and Torre Grossa are located at Piazza Duomo, 2, and you'll easily spot the tall Torre Grossa (the tallest tower in San Gimignano) adjacent to the Palazzo Comunale.

    If you're at the San Gimignano bus station, exit the station and head towards the historic center. Follow the signs for 'Centro Storico' as you walk along Viale Roma. This road will lead you uphill towards the main entrance of the city. Once you enter the historic center, take the first left onto Via San Giovanni. Continue straight until you reach Piazza della Cisterna, then take a right to enter the square. Finally, head up Via Duomo to arrive at Piazza Duomo where the Palazzo Comunale and Torre Grossa are located.

    If you are at the Collegiata di Santa Maria Assunta, exit the church and turn left onto Via San Giovanni. Walk straight until you reach Piazza della Cisterna and take a right into the square. Continue towards the end of the square and head up Via Duomo, which will take you directly to Piazza Duomo. The Palazzo Comunale and Torre Grossa are right there at the top of the street, located at Piazza Duomo, 2.
