Etruscan Well Travel Guide

The Etruscan Well, or Pozzo Etrusco, is a captivating historical site located in the heart of Perugia. The cylindrical shaft, reaching a depth of approximately 37 meters, is lined with large stone blocks similar to those used for Perugia's Etruscan walls. The upper section of the well features travertine slabs supported by massive stone beams, each weighing an estimated 8,000 kg. These beams were fitted in place without the use of mortar, showcasing the precision and skill of Etruscan engineers.Over the centuries, the Etruscan Well has undergone several renovations, beginning in the 15th century, indicating its continuous use as a vital water source for the local community.
