Named in honor of Queen Charlotte, consort of King George III, the fort featured a barracks capable of housing 50 men and was armed with 23 cannons. Its strategic location allowed for wide-ranging artillery coverage, protecting the island from potential naval threats.Today, visitors to the Fort Charlotte area can explore the remains of the fort, including the circular base for the rotation of guns and the artillery storehouse. Though a section of the fort now forms part of Rusea's High School, the site stands as a testament to Jamaica's colonial past and its strategic importance in the Caribbean. Even if the fort itself is not directly accessible from Fort Charlotte Drive in Montego Bay, the drive provides a convenient way to appreciate the area's history and enjoy the spectacular views.
