Boston Beach: Jamaica's Surfing Gem and Jerk Hotspot

Boston Beach, located in the parish of Portland, is a picturesque cove that holds a special place in Jamaica's cultural and recreational landscape. Approximately nine miles east of Port Antonio, this beach is more than just a scenic spot; it's a destination where surfing and culinary history converge.What sets Boston Beach apart is its reputation as one of the few beaches in Jamaica where surfing is a regular activity. The beach's exposure to consistent swells, especially during the winter months (November to April), creates waves suitable for both beginners and experienced surfers. Lessons and board rentals are often available, making it accessible for those new to the sport.Beyond the waves, Boston Beach is celebrated as the birthplace of Jamaican jerk cuisine. The tradition of seasoning and slow-cooking meats over pimento wood originated here, and the area continues to be dotted with jerk pits offering a variety of jerk dishes. Jerk chicken and pork are staples, but you can also find jerk lobster, shrimp, and fish. The nearby Boston Jerk Center is a cluster of rustic stalls where you can sample different jerk preparations.The beach itself is a small cove with fine to medium cream-colored sand, divided into two sections by a small bluff. The beach is approximately 14 meters wide and 152 meters long. The surrounding area is lush with vegetation, including seaside mahoe and West Indian almond trees.Boston Beach offers amenities such as restrooms, showers, and changing rooms.
