Today, it serves as a unique hostel and working Blue Mountain coffee farm, offering guests a chance to experience the serene ambiance of the Blue Mountains.Located near Penlyne Castle, Whitfield Hall provides easy access to the hiking trail to Blue Mountain Peak, the highest point in Jamaica. Many guests stay overnight before or after their climb, but the hall also makes an ideal retreat for those seeking relaxation in the mountains. Visitors can tour the coffee plantation, explore the diverse crops grown on-site, or simply unwind on the expansive lawn surrounded by towering eucalyptus trees.The house itself exudes history, with kerosene lanterns providing light and a cozy fireplace offering warmth on cool mountain evenings. Getting There
Driving
From Kingston, take Old Hope Road to Papine, then continue to Gordon Town. Turn right over the bridge near the police station and continue into the hills for approximately 16km (10 miles) to Mavis Bank. From there, follow the signs to Whitfield Hall. Note that the road can be rough, and a 4x4 vehicle is recommended for the final stretch. Expect the drive from Kingston to take around 1.5 hours. Parking is available at Whitfield Hall.
Public Transport
From Kingston, take the Line 61 bus to Gordon Town. Buses depart approximately every 20 minutes and the journey takes about 45 minutes. From Gordon Town, you will need to hire a taxi or arrange for a pick-up with Whitfield Hall to cover the remaining distance to Penlyne Castle and then Whitfield Hall, as public transport options are limited in the mountains. The taxi fare from Gordon Town to Whitfield Hall will cost approximately $20-30 USD.
