Even after a piped water system was introduced in 1893, many locals still preferred the Dome's water, highlighting its enduring importance.According to local legend, the discovery of the creek is attributed to two young girls, a Spanish girl and a slave, who were searching for crabs. They found a stone, and upon lifting it, they heard the sound of bubbling water, leading to the unveiling of the creek, initially named El Rio Camarones, or the River of Crabs. The slave girl was freed because of this discovery.Today, The Dome stands as a historical monument, attracting visitors interested in learning about its rich past and its role in Montego Bay's development.
