Discover more about Tokyo Gate Bridge

The Tokyo Gate Bridge, officially opened on February 12, 2012, is a prominent landmark in Tokyo Bay, connecting Wakasu in Koto Ward with the Umi no Mori area on the central breakwater. This 2,618-meter-long bridge is not only a vital transportation link but also a popular tourist attraction, offering panoramic views of the Tokyo skyline, Tokyo Bay, and, on clear days, the majestic Mount Fuji. The bridge's distinctive truss design has earned it the nickname 'Dinosaur Bridge' because it resembles two dinosaurs facing each other. Construction began in 2002 to ease traffic congestion in the Tokyo Bay area and cost an estimated 113 billion yen. The bridge is part of a four-lane highway and includes a pedestrian walkway accessible from Wakasu Seaside Park. Visitors can access the pedestrian walkway via an elevator from Wakasu Seaside Park and enjoy a scenic walk with unobstructed views. The bridge is especially beautiful at night when it is illuminated with LED lights that change color monthly. While the walkway extends to the midpoint of the bridge, the Central Breakwater side is closed to pedestrians, requiring visitors to return to the Wakasu side.
