Public Transport
From Sapporo Station, take the JR Muika Station Line to Minamifurano Station. The journey takes about 2 hours. Upon arrival at Minamifurano Station, take the local bus (Minamifurano Kotsu) heading towards Kanayama. The bus ride will take around 30 minutes. Check the schedule in advance as buses may not run frequently. From the Kanayama bus stop, walk to the Mount Yūbari trailhead, about 10-15 minutes away. The train fare from Sapporo to Minamifurano is approximately ¥4,000 - ¥5,000. The bus fare from Minamifurano Station to Kanayama is approximately ¥500.
Car
Driving from Sapporo, take the Hokkaido Expressway (道央自動車道). After approximately 90 minutes, take the exit toward Minamifurano. Continue on Route 237, following the signs for Mount Yūbari. Parking is available near the trailhead, with a fee of around ¥500. Note that the forest road to the trailhead may be closed early or late in the season, adding an extra 10km walk.

Mount Yūbari (夕張岳, Yūbari-dake) stands proudly on the border of Minamifurano and Yūbari in Hokkaido, Japan, within the Yūbari Mountains. Rising to an elevation of 1,667.7 meters (5,471 ft), this peak offers panoramic views and a diverse ecosystem that beckons nature lovers and outdoor adventurers alike.Hikers are drawn to Mount Yūbari for its trails that cater to various skill levels. The mountain presents a different face with each season, from the vibrant flora of spring and summer to the fiery foliage of autumn. The most popular time to hike is in June, when the alpine flora are at their peak.The mountain can be climbed from two different sides, the west side being served by the Oyubari Course and the east side being served by the Kanayama Course. The Oyubari course is more popular. The Yubari-dake Hutte is located about 20 minutes above the trailhead at the bottom of the Uma no Se trail.While exploring Mount Yūbari, visitors can immerse themselves in the tranquility of the surroundings and discover the local culture and cuisine of Hokkaido. Nearby attractions include Lake Kanayama and the Furano Ski Resort, offering a variety of activities and sights to complement a visit to the mountain.Historically, the area around Yūbari was known for coal mining.
