Discover more about Sakiwai Field

Sakiwai Field, translating to 'Happiness Field,' is aptly named for the joy it brings to visitors of Farm Tomita. Situated at the center of the farm, this field showcases a delightful array of lavender varieties, carefully arranged to create a gradient of colors. Here, you'll find four distinct types of lavender: Okamurasaki, Noushi Hayazaki, Yotei, and Hanamoiwa. The different colors of the four types of lavenders create gradations of purple. Farm Tomita's history dates back to 1903 when Tokuma Tomita began cultivating land in Nakafurano. Lavender farming started around 1958 and expanded significantly by 1970. Despite facing challenges from cheaper imports in the 1970s, Farm Tomita persevered, eventually becoming a major tourist destination. The Sakiwai Field is a testament to this dedication, offering a picturesque scene that embodies the beauty and tranquility of Hokkaido's lavender fields. Beyond the visual splendor, Sakiwai Field offers a sensory experience with the soothing fragrance of lavender. It's also conveniently located near Lavender East, a special area dedicated to cultivating ingredients for perfumes. The best time to visit Sakiwai Field is from late June to early August, when the lavender is in full bloom. During this period, the field transforms into a sea of purple, providing a perfect backdrop for photographs and a serene escape from the everyday.
