Car
If you are driving, start from Kyoto city center. Head west on Shijo-dori street and continue straight until you reach the intersection with Sanjo-dori. Turn left onto Sanjo-dori and continue until you reach the Takao area. Follow signs to Arashiyama, which will lead you onto the Randen Line route. You’ll need to take Route 1 and then Route 27. Once you get close to Arashiyama, follow the signs for Hōrin-ji temple. There is parking available nearby, but it can fill up quickly on weekends.

To reach Hōrin-ji using public transport, start by making your way to Arashiyama Station on the JR Sagano Line, which you can catch from Kyoto Station. Upon arriving at Arashiyama Station, exit the station and head towards the main road (Arashiyama Main Street). From there, you can either walk or catch a bus that heads towards the Hōrin-ji area. If walking, it's about a 20-minute stroll through the scenic streets of Arashiyama. Follow the signs to Hōrin-ji, and you will find it located on Kokuzoyamacho.
