Car
If you are driving from the center of Kyoto, head west on Route 1. Continue for about 10 kilometers until you reach the Arashiyama area. Once in Arashiyama, follow the signs toward Kokuzoyamacho. The area has limited parking, so look for designated parking lots nearby, which may charge a fee of around 500-1000 yen for a few hours. Hōrin-ji is located at Arashiyama Kokuzoyamacho, Nishikyo Ward, Kyoto, 616-0006. You can use the GPS coordinates 35.0102, 135.6772 to help you navigate directly to the temple.

Public Transportation
From Kyoto Station, take the JR San-In Line towards Sonobe and get off at Saga-Arashiyama Station (approximately 20 minutes). From the station, transfer to the Arashiyama Line and ride for just one stop to Arashiyama Station. Once you exit the station, walk towards the north and look for signs leading to Hōrin-ji. The walk will take around 15-20 minutes. You may encounter some steps along the way, so wear comfortable shoes. The total cost for this journey will be approximately 400 yen for the train fare.

From Kyoto Station, take the number 28 bus towards Arashiyama. The bus ride takes approximately 40 minutes, and you will need to pay around 230 yen. Once you arrive at the Arashiyama bus stop, follow the signs to Hōrin-ji, which is about a 20-minute walk away. Be prepared for some steep paths and steps as you make your way to the temple, which is nestled in the hillside. This is a great option if you want to enjoy the scenic views along the way.
