Getting There

  • Car

    If you are traveling by car, head to the Kyoto city center and follow signs for Route 1 (also known as the Kyoto Ring Road). Merge onto Route 1 and continue for about 5 kilometers until you reach the intersection with Route 30. Turn left onto Route 30 and continue for another 2 kilometers. Look for the signs to Kinkaku-ji; the entrance will be on your right. Note that parking is available at the site, but there may be a fee (approximately 400 yen).

  • Public Transportation - Bus

    For public transportation, head to the nearest bus stop that services the Kyoto city area. Take the Kyoto City Bus number 101 or 205 from Kyoto Station. The bus ride will take about 40 minutes. Get off at Kinkaku-ji Michi bus stop. From the bus stop, it is a short 5-minute walk to Kinkaku-ji. The bus fare is approximately 230 yen. Make sure to check the bus schedule as services may vary.

  • Public Transportation - Train and Bus

    You can also reach Kinkaku-ji using the train. Take the JR Sanin Line from Kyoto Station to the nearest station, which is Kitano Hakubaicho Station. This journey takes about 30 minutes. Upon arrival at Kitano Hakubaicho Station, transfer to the Kyoto City Bus number 101 or 205 and ride for about 10 minutes until you reach Kinkaku-ji Michi. The total fare for this combined journey is approximately 400 yen.
