Getting There

  • Public Transport

    From Kyoto Station, take the JR San-in Line towards Sonobe. Get off at Ryoanji Station (approximately 30 minutes). Once you exit the station, turn right and walk straight for about 10 minutes. You will reach Ryoan-ji at 13 Ryoanji Goryonoshitacho.

  • Bus

    From Kyoto Station, take the City Bus No. 50 or No. 101 (bound for Kinkaku-ji Temple). Get off at Ryoan-ji-michi bus stop (approximately 30 minutes). From the bus stop, walk straight for about 5 minutes. Ryoan-ji will be on your left at 13 Ryoanji Goryonoshitacho.

  • Walking

    If you are near Arashiyama, you can walk to Ryoan-ji. Head north along the riverbank towards the Togetsukyo Bridge. Cross the bridge, and continue straight. After crossing the main road, follow the signs towards Ryoan-ji. It will take approximately 30-40 minutes to walk.
