HEP Five Ferris Wheel: Osaka's Red Landmark

The HEP Five Ferris Wheel is an iconic landmark in Osaka's bustling Umeda district. Erected in 1997 on top of the HEP Five shopping complex, the bright red Ferris wheel has become a symbol of the city's vibrant urban landscape. HEP, short for Hankyu Entertainment Park, connects the wheel to the larger entertainment complex favored by a younger crowd. Rising 106 meters above the ground, the 75-meter diameter wheel features 52 gondolas, each accommodating up to four passengers. The fully air-conditioned and heated gondolas offer a comfortable 15-minute ride with music playing inside. From the top, riders can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of Osaka, including sights like Osaka Castle, the Umeda Sky Building, and even the Akashi Strait on a clear day. At night, the wheel transforms into a dazzling spectacle with computer-controlled floodlights illuminating the cityscape. The HEP Five complex itself offers a variety of shops, restaurants, and entertainment options. With over 170 clothing stores and boutiques spread across six floors, restaurants on the 7th floor, photo sticker booths on the 8th floor and an arcade on the 9th floor, there is something for everyone.
