Discover more about Site of Tenshushita-shikirimon Gate

The Site of Tenshushita-shikirimon Gate is located within Osaka Castle Park and provides a window into the castle's past. During the Tokugawa government's reconstruction of Osaka Castle, the Ninomaru (outer bailey) was divided into quadrants, each separated by strategically placed stones. The gates at these divisions were known as 'shikiri-mon,' or dividing gates. The Kita Shikiri-Mon, situated on the northern edge of the Nishinomaru (west bailey), was under the control of Jodai, a minister of the Tokugawa government. These gates regulated access and movement within the castle grounds, contributing to its defense and security. While the gate itself no longer stands, the site serves as a reminder of the complex layout and defensive measures employed at Osaka Castle. Visitors can explore the surrounding Osaka Castle Park, a vast green space with historical structures like the Osaka Castle Museum and seasonal flowers. The park provides a pleasant escape from the city and offers various activities such as jogging, cycling, and picnicking.
