Public Transport

From Hakone-Yumoto Station, take the Hakone Tozan Railway to Gora Station (approx. 35 minutes). Transfer to the Hakone Tozan Cable Car to Sounzan Station (approx. 10 minutes). The Hakone Free Pass covers both the train and cable car. Without the Free Pass, expect to pay around ¥800 for the Hakone Tozan Railway and ¥420 for the Cable Car.

Taxi

From Gora Station, a taxi to Sounzan Station takes approximately 5 minutes and costs around ¥2,400 - ¥2,900. Taxis are readily available at Gora Station.

Overview

Sounzan Station serves as the starting point for many embarking on the Hakone Ropeway, a breathtaking aerial journey across Hakone's volcanic landscape. Opened in 1921 as part of the Hakone Tozan Cable Car line, the station has evolved into a vital transportation hub connecting the cable car to the ropeway.From Sounzan, the Hakone Ropeway ascends towards Owakudani, offering panoramic views of the active, sulfuric hot springs of the Owakudani Valley. The spacious gondolas provide a unique perspective of the surrounding mountains and, weather permitting, stunning views of Mount Fuji and Lake Ashi. The entire ropeway journey from Sounzan to Togendai takes approximately 30 minutes.Sounzan Station itself offers amenities such as a waiting room, a shop for souvenirs and refreshments, and an observation terrace with a foot bath to relax and enjoy the mountain views. The station is also wheelchair accessible. As part of the Hakone Free Pass network, Sounzan Station provides access to various transportation options in the Hakone area.
