The station occupies the buildings of the former Hota Elementary School, which served the community for over 120 years before closing in 2014. In 2015, it was transformed into a roadside station, becoming the first school in Japan to offer full hotel facilities. The station retains the look and feel of a traditional Japanese elementary school. Guest rooms are former classrooms, complete with blackboards and school desks. The old gymnasium has been converted into the Kyonan Rakuichi market, where local vendors sell produce, souvenirs, and crafts. Dining options include the Satoyama Shokudo cafeteria, which serves school lunch-inspired meals on aluminum trays. Other restaurants offer pizza, Chinese cuisine, and light snacks.
