Mount Maya, a 698.6-meter peak in the Rokko mountain range, offers stunning views and a rich history rooted in Buddhist tradition. Named after Buddha's mother, Maya, it's a beloved destination for both locals and tourists seeking natural beauty and panoramic cityscapes. The mountain is easily accessible via the Maya Viewline, a combination of cable car and ropeway, or through various hiking trails.

Public Transport
To reach Mount Maya using public transport, start from Sannomiya Station in Kobe. Take Kobe City Bus Route 18 to Maya Cable-shita bus stop, which is about a 25-minute ride. From there, walk to Maya Cable Station. Take the Maya Cable Car to Niji no Eki Station, then transfer to the Maya Ropeway to reach Hoshi no Eki Station near the summit. The bus fare is approximately ¥230. A one-way ticket on the Maya Viewline (Cable Car & Ropeway) costs ¥900 for adults and ¥450 for children. A round-trip ticket is ¥1,560 for adults and ¥780 for children. There are no parking lots at Maya Cable Station. Please note that the Maya Viewline is closed on Tuesdays.
Walking
For those who prefer hiking, a trail to Mount Maya starts behind Shin-Kobe Station. Exit the station, walk through the tunnel underneath the building, and head up the stairs to find the trail. The hike passes Nunobiki Falls and the Nunobiki Herb Garden. The hike to Kikuseidai Observation Platform takes approximately 3-5 hours, depending on the route. There are no costs associated with hiking, but remember to bring water and snacks.
