Discover more about Mejiro Garden

Mejiro Garden, also known as Toshima Ward Mejiro Garden, is a traditional Japanese garden offering a peaceful retreat in the heart of Tokyo. Located in the quiet residential area of Mejiro in Toshima City, it provides a convenient escape from the metropolis. Designed in the kaiyu (scenic promenade) style, the garden invites visitors to stroll along paths winding around a central pond. The garden features a waterfall, a gazebo, and a traditional tea house called Akatori-an. The teahouse is named after the magazine Akai-tori, which was first published in the area. The Akatori-an is used as a resting place and also for haiku and tea ceremonies. Established in November 1990, the garden was created as a space to nurture nature and traditional culture. Mejiro Garden showcases seasonal beauty, with cherry blossoms in the spring and vibrant autumn leaves in the fall. From late November to early December, during the fall foliage season, the garden is illuminated at night.
