Hotarukanbashi Bridge, whose name translates to “Firefly Viewing Bridge,” is a modest yet charming attraction in the Yufuin area of Yufu, Oita. Completed in March 2000, the bridge spans a branch of the Oita River and is known as a place where, in early summer (typically June and July), one might witness the magical dance of Genji fireflies. However, firefly sightings can be inconsistent, and some visitors have been disappointed when visiting during the day.Despite the unpredictable fireflies, the bridge itself has an understated appeal. Its design incorporates both steel girders and carefully crafted wooden elements. The bridge's structure includes stairs and curved surfaces, adding a unique touch to its appearance. The surrounding area offers a peaceful atmosphere, making it a pleasant place for a stroll along the river.While in Yufuin, visitors can explore other attractions such as Lake Kinrin, Yunotsubo Street, and Yufuin Floral Village. The area is also known for its hot springs (onsen), art museums, cafes, and boutiques.
