Discover more about Archirondel Beach

Archirondel Beach, nestled on Jersey's northeast coast in the parish of St. Martin, is a delightful destination offering a blend of natural beauty and historical intrigue. The beach is characterized by its smooth pebbles and golden sands, perfect for sunbathing and building sandcastles. At low tide, the beach reveals fascinating rock pools to explore. The beach's most iconic feature is the Archirondel Tower, a Martello tower painted in a striking red and white pattern. Built in 1794, the tower served as a coastal defense structure and continues to act as a daymark for maritime navigation. The adjacent breakwater is a remnant of a 19th-century plan to construct a massive harbor stretching to St. Catherine's, intended to protect British naval vessels. Although the harbor was never completed, the breakwater provides shelter, contributing to the beach's calm waters. Archirondel is a family-friendly beach with generally safe bathing conditions, though caution is advised at high tide due to a steep shelf and slippery pebbles. The beach is also a popular spot for water sports such as swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking. Behind the beach, remnants of German gun emplacements from the Occupation add another layer of historical interest. Amenities at Archirondel include a café, public toilets, and parking. The beach is easily accessible by bus, making it a convenient destination for visitors exploring the island.
