St Catherine's Woods: A Tranquil Woodland Escape

St Catherine's Woods, nestled on the east coast of Jersey, offers a tranquil escape into nature. Also known as Rozel Woods, this picturesque woodland is ideal for those seeking a peaceful retreat. The woods feature well-maintained walking paths that meander through leafy enclaves, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the lush landscapes and serene ambiance. The woods are home to a variety of flora and fauna, including some of the island's oldest trees. During the German Occupation (1940-1945), many trees in Jersey were felled for fuel. St Catherine's Woods was also affected, but a surprising number of trees survived. Today, you can still see large, multiple-stemmed trees that regrew after being cut down during that time. The path through the woods is thought to follow the route of a Perquage, an ancient path running from St Martin's Parish Church to the coast, possibly used by smugglers.
