A perfect birthday introduction to Amman!!!

We booked a private history and food tour with Amman Food Tours for my birthday, just a couple of weeks after moving to Amman, and it was the ideal way to start getting to know the city. Lindsay was quick and helpful in putting together a custom itinerary around our timings, and our guide Jumana was wonderful — knowledgeable, warm and full of stories about the city's history and everyday life. We started at the Citadel and then headed down into the old downtown, through the souq where locals still shop for vegetables, meat and household goods, past the gold market, with stops for snacks and fresh juice along the way. Jumana then took us to a couple of local favourite restaurants to try popular Jordanian dishes, and the birthday surprise she arranged was a lovely, personal touch. Mansaf with candles!!! Highly recommended, whether you are visiting for a few days or, like us, have just arrived and are looking for a way in to the city.

Wonderful cooking class. Learned how to make 5 different dishes. Then had a wonderful lunch from them. They also were amazingly accommodating as we miss booked and had to come on a different day. It’s a family run business.

Ahmed and Afaf cooking class- a must-do experience for foodies

This was a wonderful experience start to finish. The tour of the market, the open conversations around Jordanian culture, the cooking class from showing us the ingredients and techniques for preparing the dishes. Ahmed and Afaf were wonderful hosts. Ahmed was flexible with the starting time to allow for a relaxed experience. This is a great adventure for folks who want a bit more in depth exposure to cooking Jordanian food and discussing the Jordanian way of life. Ahmed was very easy to communicate with via WhatsApp. He guided us through the market stopping at a variety of shops to get the ingredients all the while explaining the Jordanian approach to the fresh food. It was a lot of fun actually preparing the dishes with him and Afaf. Just a wonderful experience.
