Getting There

Car
If you are traveling by car, start from Almaty city center and head towards the Medeu District. Take Abai Avenue and then turn onto Al-Farabi Avenue, which leads you towards the mountains. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with the road leading to the Medeu Ice Rink. Follow the signs for Medeu, and after passing the rink, continue on the road that leads into the mountains. You will eventually reach a fork; take the left road (towards Butakovka Gorge). Follow this road for approximately 10 kilometers, and you will find parking areas near the Butakovskoye Ushchel'ye trailhead. Be aware that some roads may require a vehicle with good clearance due to rough conditions. Parking may incur a small fee, approximately 500 KZT.

Public Transportation
To reach Butakovskoye Ushchel'ye using public transport, take the metro to the Abay station and then transfer to bus number 12 or 28, which goes towards the Medeu district. Alight at the last stop near the Medeu Ice Rink. From there, you can either walk or hire a local taxi to the Butakovka Gorge trailhead. Walking from Medeu to the trailhead will take around 1-1.5 hours. If you choose to take a taxi, expect to pay around 1,500 to 2,500 KZT for the ride, depending on negotiation.
