Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start your journey in the city of Almaty. Take the A2 highway towards the southeast and continue on the road for about 200 kilometers. Look for signs indicating the Charyn Canyon entrance, which will be on your right. Once you reach the entrance, pay the entrance fee, which is approximately 500 KZT per person. From the entrance, follow the designated road for about 10 kilometers until you reach the main viewpoint of the canyon. Make sure to have your vehicle fueled as there are limited services in the area.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Charyn Canyon using public transportation, first take a bus from Almaty to the town of Sharyn. Buses leave regularly from the Sayakhat Bus Station. The journey takes around 3 hours and costs approximately 1,500 KZT. Upon arrival in Sharyn, you will need to take a taxi or a minibus to the canyon entrance, which is about 30 kilometers away. Agree on a fare with the driver beforehand; it should cost around 2,000 KZT to the entrance. Once at the entrance, pay the entrance fee, and then continue on foot or by vehicle to explore the canyon.

• Taxi

  If you prefer a more direct option, consider hiring a taxi from Almaty to Charyn Canyon. The journey will take about 3-4 hours, depending on traffic, and costs approximately 15,000 KZT to 20,000 KZT. Make sure to negotiate the price beforehand. The taxi can drop you at the entrance of the canyon, where you will then pay an entrance fee of around 500 KZT per person. This option allows for more flexibility in your schedule and stops along the way.
