Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, head to Almaty, which is the nearest major city to Shymbulak. From Almaty, take Kerey and Zhanibek Khans Street and follow the signs towards the mountains. The drive to Shymbulak is approximately 30 minutes (around 25 km) depending on traffic. Be prepared for winding roads as you ascend into the mountains. Ensure your vehicle is equipped for mountain driving, especially in winter conditions.

• Public Bus

  To reach Shymbulak via public transport, take a bus from Almaty. You can catch a bus from the Almaty Bus Station (also known as the Central Bus Station) which is located at 5, Zheltoksan Street. Look for bus numbers 12 or 28, which head towards the Medeu area. The fare is approximately 150 KZT (Kazakhstani Tenge). The bus ride will take about 40 minutes. Once you reach Medeu, you can either walk or take a taxi for the remaining 10 minutes (about 7 km) to the Shymbulak ski resort.

• Taxi

  If you prefer convenience, consider taking a taxi from Almaty directly to Shymbulak. You can book a taxi through apps like Yandex Go or Uber, or hail one from the street. The taxi fare can range from 3000 to 5000 KZT, and the journey typically takes around 30 minutes. Ensure the driver knows the exact address: Kerey and Zhanibek Khans St 558/1, Almaty 050020.

• Cable Car

  Once you arrive at Shymbulak, you can take advantage of the cable cars for accessing the ski slopes. The price for a single ride is around 2000 KZT and a day pass can cost approximately 7000 KZT. This scenic ride offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and is a popular choice among visitors.
