Travel Guide to Civil War Fort!!!!

Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving, the Civil War Fort is located at 1250 Ford Hampton Rd, Winchester, KY 40391. From Lexington, take I-64 E towards Winchester. After about 20 miles, take exit 96 for KY-15 N toward Winchester. Merge onto KY-15 N, and continue straight for approximately 3 miles. Turn left onto Ford Hampton Rd, and the fort will be on your right. There is no entry fee for the site, but check for any special events that may have additional costs.

• Public Transportation

  For those relying on public transport, take the Greyhound bus service from Lexington to Winchester. The bus ride takes approximately 30-45 minutes. Once in Winchester, you can use a local taxi service or rideshare app like Uber or Lyft to reach the fort, which is about 5 miles away from the Greyhound bus station. Be sure to arrange for a return trip as public transportation options may be limited in the evening.

• Bicycle

  For the adventurous, biking to the Civil War Fort from surrounding areas can be a scenic option. If you're in downtown Winchester, it’s about a 15-minute ride. Head east on Main St, then take a right onto KY-15 N, and finally a left onto Ford Hampton Rd. Ensure you wear a helmet and stay on designated bike paths when available.

• Walking

  If you are already in the vicinity of Ford Hampton Rd, walking to the fort can be a pleasant experience. The area is scenic, and you can enjoy the local landscape. From downtown Winchester, it’s about a 30-minute walk. Walk east on Main St, then head north on KY-15 N until you reach Ford Hampton Rd, then take a left to the fort. Please note that walking is recommended only during daylight hours for safety.
